Partners of the EU Project GUARD Convened for the 2nd Team Project Meeting

The partners from the consortium of the EU-funded project “Safeguarding children in sport” (GUARD) convened online for the 2nd Team Project Meeting. This crucial meeting focused on reviewing and advancing key project deliverables aimed at safeguarding children in sports organizations.

The central topics of discussion were the initial drafts of two pivotal deliverables from Work Package 2 (WP2):

1. D2.1. “Guidance and Procedures to Safeguard and Protect Children in Sport Organizations” – Presented by Matea Horvat, the Child Safeguarding Officer for NOC Croatia, this draft outlines comprehensive guidelines and procedures designed to enhance the protection of children within sports environments.

2. D2.2. “Set of Resources for Child Safeguarding Officers in Sport Organizations” – prof.dr.sc. Zrinka Greblo-Jurakić, child safeguarding expert, introduced this draft, which offers a valuable compilation of resources aimed at equipping Child Safeguarding Officers with the necessary tools to effectively perform their roles.

During the meeting, partners collectively agreed on the importance of a thorough review involving all relevant national stakeholders. This collaborative approach aims to ensure the robustness and applicability of the guidance and resources provided. Additionally, the consortium committed to progressing the drafts for Work Package 3 (WP3) deliverables.

A significant milestone highlighted in the meeting is the appointment of Child Safeguarding Officers in each partner NOC, scheduled to be completed by October. This step is crucial for the project’s success and demonstrates a strong commitment to safeguarding children in sports across Europe.

Lastly, Marija Leskovec, the lead for Work Package 4 (WP4), presented the project’s official website (D4.4 Project Website). The consortium is excited to announce that the website will go live on Friday, June 28, providing a dedicated platform for sharing updates, resources, and information about the GUARD project.

The consortium will continue its diligent work on the WP3 drafts and other project activities, with the next team project meeting scheduled for October. This upcoming meeting will provide an opportunity to reconnect, review progress, and plan the next steps in safeguarding children in sports.
